AN OUTDOOR centre could face closure after Sheffield Council rejected a plea to restore its funding.
Opposition Liberal Democrat councillors had proposed a motion to restore an £8,000 grant for Mayfield Environmental Education Centre, Fulwood, at a full meeting of the authority.
The Lib Dem group proposed that a bigger cut should be made to the budget for full-time trade union officials.
Coun Andrew Sangar, who represents Fulwood, said: “Learning about the countryside is a vital part of our children’s education.
“Yet instead Labour are planning the closure of the centre to save just £8,000.”
Labour said it is cutting the number of paid, full-time union officials from 16 to nine.
