Students signed up 47 new organ donors to the NHS register at Sheffield’s Pride festival.
Sheffield Marrow group, which supports blood cancer charity Anthony Nolan Trust, signed up the donors at the event.
Almost 9,000 Sheffield people have joined the NHS Organ Donor Register since The Star launched its Gift of Life campaign. The aim is to recruit 12,000 donors before the British Transplant Games on August 15.
Staff at Westfield Health - the games’ headline sponsor - are gearing up for the contest. Many have become donors or signed up for The Star’s Donor Run on August 17.
Graham Moore, chairman of Westfield Health and of the games’ organising committee, said: “There is a real buzz about this year’s games especially since it is returning to Sheffield.”
