Opticians help poor see again

A SHEFFIELD opticians has raised almost £600 for charity at a fundraising day.

Staff at Specsavers raised money for Vision Aid Overseas to raise awareness about inadequate eye care services in developing countries.

Staff staged a ‘Wear your own clothes day’, a raffle and customers made donations.

Rob Hobson, Jordan Newell and Rob Wibberley also took part in a fundraising event called ‘Miles for Sight’.

They cycled 60 miles on an exercise bike in the shop, raising hundreds of pounds in sponsorship.

It was done to highlight how the average African must walk 60 miles to get an eye test.

Vision Aid Overseas raises awareness about how around 10 per cent of the world’s population are visually impaired because they are unable to obtain the glasses they need.
