Have your say

Without wanting to sound too blasé it would have been a major shock if Sheffield hadn’t been named the best city for countryside lovers to live in.

More than 5,000 votes – or 71 per cent of the total – were cast for Sheffield in the online Countryfile poll to find the winner.

In second place was Edinburgh, which trailed with around 1,665 votes before the contest closed at the weekend.

We are very lucky to love in a city with such a close proximity to some of the United Kingdom’s most beautiful countryside.

But apart from geography there are more reasons why Sheffield is perfect for lovers of the great outdoors. There are many businesses that cater for people’s needs – be it equipment or bikes or clothing.

There are superb restaurants and cafes both in the heart of the countryside and on its outskirts owned and operated by people from the city.

And there is a population who understand what it means to live with the countryside at our doorstep. It is a place to be looked after and cherished.

We are rightfully proud of the beautiful land in and around our city and pleased that Sheffield has been recognised for being the best.
