A website set up to shame inconsiderate parkers is, on the face of it, a good idea.
Drivers who park their cars, or other vehicles, in positions where it is difficult for people in wheelchairs or with pushchairs to get past are causing a hazard.
The most common cause for complaints are when a vehicle blocks a pavement or prevents drivers having a clean line of sight at junctions. But there are also cases where buses are unable to access their routes until parked cars have been moved.
The roads are busy. People need cars to get to and from work.
It’s not a war against motorists, just a wish that a little more care is taken when parking.
However, while the aims of the website are laudable it must also be balanced out with a note of caution.
A photograph may give the impression the driver has parked inconsiderately but circumstances may have dictated their car’s position.
Also, people may object to seeing their car being publicised for being in a certain place at a certain time, albeit with the best of intentions.
The simple way round this is for drivers to park carefully and consider everyone who uses the road.
