DONCASTER pop star Louis Tomlinson is hoping for a change of fortune – after his band was nominated for a Brit award.
One Direction have made the shortlist for the best single honour for their debut song released last year, What Makes You Beautiful.
It means the group will be fighting nine other records for the honour, which is decided by a public vote on the internet.
Former Hall Cross School pupil Louis has told of his delight at the nomination and is urging readers of The Star to vote.
He said: “I can’t believe we have been nominated for a Brit award – wow!
“Please, please get behind us and vote.”
The nomination puts them against some of the country’s biggest stars.
The rest of the list is made up of Someone Like You by Adele, The A Team by Ed Sheeran, Changed the Way You Kissed Me by Example, Price Tag by Jessie J, She Makes Me Wanna by JLS, Wherever You Are by Military Wives, Heart Skips a Beat by Olly Murs, All About Tonight by Pixie Lott and Glad You Came by The Wanted.
Voting for the award is running until noon on Friday February 17.
Log onto www.brits.co.uk/voting to register to vote.
The British Single category is voted for by listeners of Capital FM radio stations throughout the United Kingdom and users of iTunes.
The 10 nominated singles have been selected based on the greatest volume of commercial radio air-play, as well as sales results in the 2011 calendar year, said a spokesman for the awards.
The nomination comes as a boost to 20-year-old Louis, originally from Bessacarr, and arrives just a week after he was hurt in a car crash in Birmingham.
He and his four fellow band members were travelling in a people carrier after performing in the city when the vehicle was involved in a collision while it was stopped at traffic lights.
Louis was taken to hospital and received treatment for whiplash.
One Direction made their name on the X Factor, finishing third in the competition which was won by Matt Cardle.
