The first on-street electric charging point has been installed in Rotherham.
The facility on Drummond Street. in the town centre, will allow drivers to top up their electric vehicle battery charge in three to four hours.
It has been rolled out as part of a Government initiative involving councils to encourage South Yorkshire businesses to make the switch to plug-in electric vehicles.
Coun Maggie Godfrey, cabinet member for safe and attractive neighbourhoods, said: “Plug-in vehicles help the environment by cutting pollution and offer a good driving experience and low running costs for drivers.
“We hope that this new charging point will make the appeal for plug-in vehicles more attractive and encourage more electric vehicles onto the road.”
