On parade: Veterans' tribute to heroes of war - PICTURES
WAR heroes of the past and those still fighting in conflicts across the world today were remembered when Sheffield marked Armed Forces and Veterans Day.
A series of events took place in the city centre on Saturday including a parade from Millennium Square to the Peace Gardens.
Onlookers were also able to step back in time with music and dance from the 1940s and '50s.
A final event to mark the commemoration was due to take place at 10.30am today with an Armed Forces Day flag raised at the Town Hall.
It was timed to be raised in unison with other cities and communities across the country and will fly for a week.
Other activities on Saturday included displays in which the visiting public could get involved, from climbing walls and agility tests to a laser rifle range.
The Royal Navy, RAF and cadets all had information stands on Fargate.
The army and reserve services carried out demonstrations in Barker's Pool throughout the day.
Lord Mayor Coun Graham Oxley described the event as a great opportunity for people to find out more about today's armed forces, as well as showing respect for the veterans of past conflicts.
