OLYMPICS officials gathered in a Peak District quarry to practise for a key stage in the torch relay.
Lafarge Cement’s quarry at Hope Works has been used as a testing ground for an unusual section of the relay which takes place on the Tyne Bridge between Newcastle and Gateshead.
Ashley Bryan, Hope Works manager, said: “Our quarry was used to test out a zipwire in advance of the actual relay. The torch will actually be taken off the top of the Tyne Bridge on a zipwire. Our quarry provided the Torch team with a similar length.”
