FRAUDSTERS are targeting residents with separate scams - one offering big-money prizes and the other claiming to raise money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
Rotherham Council is warning people to look out for Air Ambulance Support CIC collection envelopes, which are being distributed to homes in Killamarsh. No money has been donated to the air ambulance from the ‘appeal’.
A spokesman for the authority’s trading standards unit said the collection is illegal.
Meanwhile, north Derbyshire residents are being alerted to a scam letter which claims they have won a £525,000 prize in an Olympic lottery draw.
It claims to be from the 2012 Summer Olympic Lottery and asks them to return a form completed with their personal details to unlock the prize.
Coun Kevin Parkinson, Derbyshire County Council cabinet member for regeneration, said: “No Olympic lottery exists and no prizes are there to be claimed.”
