ONE of the final pre-Olympic training events was held in Sheffield with members of the Brazilian judo squad practising their moves.

Members of the team demonstrated their techniques during the session at Sheffield Hallam University gym, on Collegiate Crescent, off Ecclesall Road.

Judo is one of Brazil’s most successful Olympic sports and the country has won 15 medals, including two golds in recent years.

Other international teams to hold training camps in Sheffield ahead of the Games have included Serbian athletes and the US diving team, which used the facilities at Ponds Forge.

Sheffield’s facilities have also been the base for British squads including boxing and table tennis who trained at the English Institute of Sport.
