BARNSLEY Central MP Dan Jarvis has praised a cultural link struck up between the town and London’s borough of Newham to coincide with the Olympic Games this summer.
The Labour politician said ‘no other town or city in the country has forged a cultural Olympic partnership with the host borough of the games’.
He added: “The partnership is an inspired initiative which means that, in the coming months, it will be our town that is maximising the benefit of the games.”
He also praised other cultural developments in the coming year such as the opening of the ‘inspiring’ Experience Barnsley centre, the reopening of the Town Hall, and the new People’s Museum, which is based there.
Mr Jarvis spoke as he handed out prizes in the Proud of Barnsley campaign, which rewards talented young people.
