The group, who have called themselves the 'Barnsley Old Boys' are taking part in Oxfam's Trailtrekker event.

And they are hoping to complete the 62 mile route in less than 30 hours.

The team of over 50s is also hoping their efforts will encourage Barnsley residents of all ages to take up walking and stay active.

Tom said: "Trailtrekker is a great cause and I am delighted to be part of a team from Barnsley, raising as much money as possible for Oxfam and Barnsley Hospice.

"Walking is such a simple way for people of all ages to stay active. It's easy to take up and there are plenty of trails to get started on across Yorkshire's vast countryside. "

The Barnsley Old Boys' hope to raise in excess of 2,000.
