Trail riders will mount a ‘go slow’ protest in the Peak District tomorrow as part of a campaign against attempts to ban them from the unsurfaced roads of the national park.

The riders fear plans to ban vehicles from Chapelgate and the Roych are just the start of a campaign by the Friends of the Peak District to stop them using off-road routes in the park.

Mike Irving of the Trail Riders Fellowship said: “We will be recreating the trail riding experience on tarmac, travelling in small groups at no more than 25 mph, stopping for horses and to admire the scenery and when we reach the trails we will park.

Mr Irving said trail riders boosted the Peak District economy in the low season and should not be banned.
