Objections to plans for bar to open late
PLANS by a Sheffield bar to open until 3.30am seven days a week have met with opposition from council officials.
Lava Lounge, on West Street, is applying to extend its hours from the current 2am closing time – and a decision is to be made by Sheffield Council's licensing board today.
Jon Round, Sheffield Council environmental health officer, said: "The premises are located in an area with high levels of residential accommodation in close proximity, and relatively low background noise in the early hours of the morning.
"I am concerned that residents in close proximity will potentially be affected by both excessive noise from noise breakout and disturbance from people accessing or exiting the venue, or having a smoking break."
Mr Round was joined in objecting by council planning officer Phil Abbott, who said: "The local planning authority objects on the grounds of existing and future detriment to public amenity.
"I would recommend the licence is restricted to the current hours of operation."
Lava Lounge said it will control noise by keeping doors and windows closed and through the existing limiter fitted to its sound system.
