A PENSIONER had a necklace stolen by a conman who offered to sell her jewellery as she sat in her mobility scooter.

The 77-year-old woman was approached by a man who put a necklace around her neck and showed her two rings.

But as the OAP was talking to the man, she realised her own necklace was missing and threatened to call the police. The man then gave it back to her and walked off towards Tesco.

He was Asian, in his mid 20s, 5ft 8ins tall and slim. He had short dark hair, was clean shaven, and was wearing dark clothing.

The incident happened outside Boots on Lower Pavement, Chesterfield, at around 2pm on Tuesday January 18.

Sgt Mick Burton, of Derbyshire Police, said: “It appears this man was trying to steal the woman’s expensive chain from her neck by trickery. I’m appealing to anyone who saw this man to contact us.”

Anyone with information should call Derbyshire Police on 0345 123 3333.
