A WOMAN aged 74 is fighting for life in hospital after a collision on Sheffield’s outer ring road.

The pensioner was struck on the northbound carriageway as she crossed 60m after the junction with Hollinsend Road, Intake.

She suffered multiple broken bones in the collision just after 2pm on Sunday.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Police are appealing for witnesses after an elderly woman sustained life-threatening injuries when she was in collision with a Skoda Fabia.

“Officers understand the Skoda moved into the outside lane of the dual carriageway to overtake another vehicle.”

She is being treated in the Northern General Hospital. Anyone with information should call 101 quoting incident 634 of December 23.

* The A628 Woodhead Pass was closed at the Greater Manchester end after a fatal collision at Tintwistle, where a male pedestrian was hit by a lorry, at 4.55pm on Sunday.
