Not quite the truth about EU and 70 years of peace

Have your say

The Right Honourable Paul Blomfield’s article in the “Letters” section of Thursdays Star (May 15) beggars belief. I have never read a newspaper article so full of nonsense, hyperbole and blatant wrongs! Either this MP is a paid mouthpiece for the EU and is happy to rewrite history in its favour or he sadly missed out on history at school.

First of all he totally ignores the fact that it has been the United States and NATO that has kept the peace in Europe in the post-WW2 years, NOT the EU.

Secondly he claims the EU ensured stability in Europe after the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991. How on earth this happened when this was a full six years before the EU came into existence he omits to explain; six years in which Eastern Europe was at its most vulnerable to collapse and held together by, again, security offered by NATO and the United States.

Lastly I might point out another fact about the EU Mr Blomfield chooses to ignore. As recent events have shown the EU is quite happy to throw its poorer Mediterranean members to the wolves in order to ensure the financial security of its wealthy elite in the north-west of Europe. Hardly keeping the peace in Europe when its decisions trigger riots in the South!

Paul Blomfield MP, in writing this article, has shown himself to be an unworthy member of the House of Commons, either by blatantly attempting to rewrite history to the detriment of reality, or by simply being blatantly ignorant of all post-WW2 history.

But then, one might expect this from any UK MP today.

Sadly it seems the truth continues to bypass Westminster!
