The departure of Micky Adams was a surprise to some Blades fans but not others.

It’s a results business after all so these things happen. So who is next? We initially had Academy boss, John Pemberton at 6/1. He was one of the favourites along with Aidy Boothroyd 5/1, John Hughes 7/1, Chris Wilder 8/1, but we soon got the message that Blades fans thought Pemberton was going to get it and they were prepared to put their cash on him.

We got bowled over and it seemed the more we reduced the price the more they spent.

He is now a big odds on shot at 2/5. But we are not so sure. The Blades might still decide to get an experienced man in.

Incidentally we haven’t seen much money for the three we mentioned earlier, but we have had decent money on Phil Parkinson, Russell Slade, Keith Hill, Paul Tisdale, Peter Reid and wait for it … Steve McClaren. Danny Wilson could be in the frame despite his association with Wednesday, maybe John Still, maybe Iain Dowie.

The money says Pemberton. What do you think?

Finally what has been very interesting as well in the last week has been the plunge on Sheffield Wednesday to finish higher than United next season. It is now Evens that Wednesday do after they have been backed at 6/5 and 11/10. We took a big five figure bet at the 11/10, so bring on the season. We still have United as favourites at 8/11. It should be an interesting campaign ahead.
