A new Sheffield icon will not be added to the city’s Walk of Fame in 2014 – because Sheffield Council says it has been an ‘extremely busy year’ for events.

The authority normally honours an outstanding resident as a Sheffield Legend with a star outside the Town Hall each year – in 2013 it was squash champion Nick Matthew.

Events staff this year have been involved with the Tour de France’s Grand Départ visiting the city, the launch of the 2017 Special Olympics and a string of festivals.

A council spokesman said: “It has been a busy year in terms of major events in Sheffield, not least with the Grand Départ.

“In light of this, the decision was taken not to name a new Sheffield Legend. We look forward to working with the public and The Star to find a new one in 2015.”
