NINE men face a Crown Court trial after a fatal smash on the M1.

Muhammed Ali Hassan, aged 18, from Sheffield, died after a four-vehicle smash near J39 at Wakefield.

Mr Hassan was airlifted to hospital but died from injuries suffered in the crash on Wednesday, August 31.

Five men are jointly charged with causing death by dangerous driving. Seven of the nine face a charge of conspiring to pervert the course of justice by allegedly misleading police over who was in each vehicle involved. All nine appeared before Wakefield Magistrates’ Court.

Zafeer Abdul, 20, of Wolseley Road, Sharrow, Mohammed Abdulla, 19, of Colver Road, Lowfield, and Yaseen Fiaz, 19, of Archibald Road, Nether Edge, are charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice and causing death by dangerous driving. Abdulla is also charged with aggravated vehicle taking.

Nabeel Ahmed, 19, of Kenbourne Road, Nether Edge, and Emdadur Rahman, 20, of Raleigh Road, Heeley, face one charge of death by dangerous driving.

Imranur Rahman, 18, of Holland Road, Highfield, and Monwar Hussain, 20, of South View Road, Sharrow, Muzammel Ahmed, 19, of St Barnabas Road, Highfield, and Vakas Hussain, 19, of Nether Edge, face a single charge of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.
