Nick helps students look to the future

STUDENTS at a Sheffield school had a VIP guest when they staged a recycled-fashion show - Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg.

Sixth-form pupils at Notre Dame High School in Fulwood staged the show with recycled clothes as part of a week-long series of events focusing on the liveSimply initiative, calling on people to live more simply, sustainably and in solidarity with poor people around the world.

Other events staged as part of the project - run by the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development - included lunchtime conventions with an eco-theme, poster, photo and video competitions and students and staff making eco pledges for the New Year.

Hallam MP Mr Clegg said: "Living sustainably and showing compassion to others, looking out not just for our own future but also for that of people living in poverty overseas, can only be a good thing.

"This reminds us that it is vital we think about the generations that will follow us, and take care of the planet they will inherit."

Student Rachel Booth, 17, of Fulwood said: "It's been really fun. We've been throwing it out to the kids to get them to take part in it and they've all been really good, really supportive."

Assistant headteacher Deirdre Cleary said "We're delighted that Mr Clegg has been able to come and support the students here, and more importantly, liveSimply."
