PLACARD-waving protesters presented a 3,000 name petition to Rotherham NHS Trust bosses.

The Trade Unionists and Socialists Coalition is opposing cuts being proposed by the NHS Foundation Trust board.

The trust needs to save £50m over the next four years - and nurses, therapists, clerical and technical staff and some managers are facing around 200 compulsory redundancies. Remaining staff face salary ‘down-banding’ and three wards are earmarked to close.

TUSC spokesman Ralph Dyson said: “If these cuts go ahead, Rotherham will be reduced to not much more than a glorified cottage hospital.”
