I AM writing in defence of claims of neglect of the elderly by the NHS. My mother, aged 96, is in Hadfield 4 at the Northern General. She has been there since December 28 following a fall at her home.
During this long stay she has received nothing but the best care from all concerned.
She is in a single room with en-suite facilities. She has her own appointed nurse who is very attentive. Food and drinks are supplied frequently and she is offered help to eat drink, take a shower and go to the toilet.
I have nothing but praise for the staff, both nurses and doctors. She has been appointed a discharge nurse who has helped us to find a nursing home for her to move into. Her assistance has been superb and I genuinely do not know how I would have coped without her help and guidance.
This ward is a far cry from the wards described in recent reports, it is absolutely spotless, organised and well run by all the staff. Congratulations to Sheffield on this fine example and obviously a cut above others in the UK.
