News In Brief: Wedding items theft charges

TWO men are due before Chesterfield magistrates next month accused over the theft of items from a wedding marquee.

The men, aged 18 and 22, are charged with handling stolen goods after a chandelier and wedding favours were taken in Bakewell between 5.30pm on Friday July 30 and 8am the following morning.

Kitchen blaze

A COOKER in the kitchen of a Chesterfield house went up in flames yesterday. Firefighters were called to Cobnar Drive at 9.40am. Two entered the house and used a water jet to extinguish the flames. They ventilated the property.

Gentle touch

SHEFFIELD people need to touch each other almost once a minute, a new study claims. Half of Sheffield people feel deprived and neglected when they haven't been touched for a day. Current generations are far more touchy than their predecessors.

Boy rescued

AN AERIAL ladder platform was used by fire crews to reach a Sheffield boy sitting in a tree in a city park. The 10-year-old had been in the tree at Cardwell Park, Cardwell Avenue, Stradbroke, for hours.

Crops torched

FIREFIGHTERS called to a field on fire on Devonshire Avenue North, New Whittington found 30 square metres of land on fire. A cut crop had been deliberately torched. Police are investigating.

Straw on fire

CUT straw in a field on Water Lane, Carr Vale, caught fire late on Tuesday. Firefighters from Bolsover used beaters and water-filled backpacks.
