LONG traffic queues built up in the morning rush hour yesterday after a car smashed into a street sign.

The Saab vehicle collided with the sign at around 8.20am on London Road, Heeley.

The female driver of the car was unhurt but traffic stretched back as far as Woodseats until the scene was cleared.

Arson attack

A BURNING people carrier was put out by firefighters after being set alight by arsonists.

The Vauxhall vehicle was set on fire in woodland off Ironside Road, Gleadless, at around 10.50pm on Sunday.

A crew from Mansfied Road was called to the scene and spent just over an hour extinguishing the flames.

Deliberate car fire

A CAR fire on Musgrave Road, Loxley, Sheffield, is believed to have been started deliberately.

The Renault Megane was set on fire at 6.20am yesterday, and was well alight when a crew from Elm Lane station arrived.

Firefighters also put out a blazing van on Marlborough Close, Thurnscoe, earlier in the morning at 3am. The incident is being treated as arson.

An accidental car fire happened at around 6.30am yesterday on Doncaster Road, Dalton, Rotherham.

THE police helicopter was needed to find a car being driven dangerously on the M1 motorway in South Yorkshire.

The chopper crew located the vehicle, which was moving erratically, near junction 35 at Thorpe Hesley, Rotherham.

Officers on the ground pulled the car over and spoke to the driver, who was travelling from West Yorkshire.
