NEWS IN BRIEF: Service honours US flying heroes

A SERVICE of remembrance takes places in Sheffield this Sunday for the American crew of the Mi Amigo flying fortress bomber which crashed in Endcliffe Park on February 22, 1944. The Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Coun Sylvia Dunkley, will attend the 2pm ceremony at St Augustine’s Church.

Firefighting duties

FIREFIGHTERS prevented businesses from going up in flames when a pile of wooden pallets was set alight behind shops on Main Road, Darnall. Crews were alerted to the fire at 10pm on Monday. A shed was set on fire on Hesley Road, Shiregreen, Sheffield, at 6.55pm on Saturday and a pile of tyres was set alight off Park Spring Road, Grimethorpe, Barnsley, at 7.15pm on Sunday.
