News In Brief: Crews deal with car engine smoke

FIREFIGHTERS were called to the A616 at Stocksbridge, Sheffield, near to the Underbank Reservoir, to deal with a car engine which had begun pouring out smoke.

The engine of the Seat Alhambra started billowing smoke on Sunday, at about 1.30pm, but stopped by the time firefighters from Barnsley station arrived.

Motorist trapped

A WOMAN had to be freed after being trapped in a car crash in South Yorkshire.

The woman, in her 20s, crashed her Vauxhall Astra on Redbrook Road, Gawber, Barnsley, on Saturday, at about 4.20am. Firefighters released the woman and she was taken to hospital.

Trees set on fire

ARSONISTS set a row of conifers alight on Kirk Balk, Hoyland, on Monday, at 9.10pm.

A small garden fire on Longfield Crescent, Hoyland, which broke out five minutes earlier, is also being treated as deliberate.

Rubbish set alight

Rubbish was set on fire deliberately on Lyons Street, Pitsmoor, Sheffield.

Firefighters from Darnall station were called to the arson attack at 11.05pm on Monday.
