NEWS IN BRIEF: Blaze above a Chinese takeaway

FIREFIGHTERS climbed a ladder to put out flames on a windowsill above Wok Master takeaway on Wordsworth Drive, Southey Green, Sheffield, at 5.30pm on Sunday.

The cause has been logged as accidental.

A chimney which caught fire accidentally at a property on Albert Road, Heeley, Sheffield, was tackled by firefighters who extinguished the flames from the hearth at 7.55pm on Sunday.

Man hurt in crash

A MAN in his 40s had to be helped free from his crashed car after a two-vehicle collision on Pickhill Road, Maltby, Rotherham, at 6pm on Saturday. A Ford Focus found on fire on Edderthorpe Lane, Darfield, Barnsley, had been set alight in an arson attack at 10.55pm on Sunday. Arsonists were also to blame for a van in flames on Fitzwilliam Road, Eastwood, Rotherham, at 4.20am yesterday.

FIRE crews dealt with three rubbish fires over the weekend - including one started deliberately on Lidgett Lane, Thurnscoe, Barnsley, on Sunday night. The others - on Lincoln Street, Maltby, and Lawrence Drive, Swinton - were accidental.
