NEWS IN BRIEF: Arsonists set fire to block of flats

A STORE room at the bottom of a block of flats was set alight in an arson attack in Sheffield.

The fire broke out on Greenland Close, Darnall at 10pm on Monday. Residents did not have to leave their homes.

Bales of hay found burning in a field off Spencer Drive, Ravenfield, Rotherham, were also deliberately set alight. Firefighters were called at midnight on Monday.

Garages burgled

TWO garages were broken into in Sheffield overnight - one on Hemsworth Road, Norton, and the other on Herdings Road, Gleadless Townend. A shed was also broken into on Ashbury Lane, Hemsworth.

Pet shop raided

A PET shop in Shirebrook, Chesterfield, was broken into when a door was forced. Thieves stole tobacco, alcohol and pet products from Shire Pet Centre on Victoria Street at around 3am yesterday.

Broken down lorry

A BROKEN down lorry caused traffic congestion on City Road during rush hour on Monday afternoon. It took around an hour for a recovery vehicle to get to the lorry to tow it away.

Home broken into

A HOME on Kent Road, Meersbrook, was broken into after an integral garage door was forced open overnight last Friday. Police are investigating.
