Arsonists target vehicle on estate

ARSONISTS have been blamed for a fire which caused damage to a car on a Sheffield housing estate.

Firefighters were called to the burning vehicle on Falstaff Road, Parson Cross, at about 8pm on Friday.

Police are appealing for information about the blaze. Witnesses should call South Yorkshire Police on 101.

Tree halts trains

RAIL services were disrupted after a tree was blown down blocking the line between Meadowhall and Rotherham Central stations. Trains were unable to call at Rotherham yesterday afternoon until the tracks were cleared.

No other major incidents were reported to emergency services due to high winds.

Footy team appeal

FOOTBALL teams are needed for a new summer Flexi Footie league being run by Sheffield and Hallamshire County FA.

Games are taking place each Saturday morning, for 11-a-side teams, over 14 weeks at Sheffield University’s Goodwin Sports Centre.

New concert date

ORGANISERS of a concert postponed due to snow have announced a new date.

Hallam Choral Society is holding the performance of Buxtehude Membra Jesu Nostri and Bach Cantata 147 from 7pm on Saturday, April 20, from 7.30pm, at St. Oswald’s Church, Bannerdale Road.

Bus battery fire

FIREFIGHTERS were called to a Sheffield bus depot after a vehicle battery caught fire.

Crews were sent to the Stagecoach depot, on Rother Valley Way, Halfway, at about 4am yesterday.
