Homes raided but one thief is foiled

A HOUSE on Carter Knowle Road, Sheffield, was broken into overnight last Monday when a door was forced.

Police are also investigating a burglary on Carter Road, Heeley, where an offender smashed a window during the day on Tuesday.

And in Norton a window was forced by a burglar on Hemsworth Road.

Doors were forced to three houses on Ironside Place, Backmoor Road and Spring Close Dell, all in Gleadless Valley.

But on Brooklyn Road, Meersbrook, a burglar fled empty handed after being disturbed trying to break into a property.

Vehicles ablaze

FIRE crews were called to a van engulfed in flames off Bole Hill Road, Crookes, Sheffield, at 5am on Wednesday. The van was too badly damaged to determine its make and model. A digger caught fire in a builder’s yard on Church Street, Jump, Barnsley, at 11pm the same night due to an engine fault.

Chance drugs find

POLICE stumbled upon a cannabis factory after being called to reports of a suspected burglary. The haul of 15 plants was found at a house in Huntingtower Road, Greystones, Sheffield, at 12.15am on Wednesday. One man was arrested.

Man’s hand cut

A DISTURBANCE on Bolsover Road East, Firth Park, Sheffield, resulted in a man suffering a cut to his hand. The 28-year-old was taken to hospital for treatment after the attack at 7.50pm last Wednesday.

Business on fire

firefighters in Barnsley tackled a blaze at a Wombwell Lane business. The call-out came at 5.20am on Saturday and two engines attended, returning to the station after five hours.

Car fire at store

A VAUXHALL Corsa found burning on the Morrisons supermarket car park, Owlerton, Sheffield, had been set alight deliberately at 1am last Friday.

MORE than 400 purse chains have been given out to shoppers in a bid to prevent pickpocketing in Chesterfield.
