Confiscated rifle to be destroyed

AN AIR rifle was seized by police from a house on Firth Park Road, Firth Park, Sheffield, following reports that members of the public had been almost hit by a pellet.

Officers who took the gun away passed it on to the South Yorkshire Police firearms team to disable and dispose of it.

Thieves target vans

POLICE are investigating after two lorries were broken into while parked in a builder’s yard. The lorries were targeted on Broadfield Road, Abbeydale, overnight on Thursday into Friday. Meanwhile a generator left in a van on Chelsea Road, Brincliffe, Sheffield, was stolen on Friday morning. Call police on 101.

Motorway smash

A MAN was taken to Rotherham Hospital last night after a motorway smash. The crash between junctions 33 and 34 of the M1 was thought to involve one car. Fire crews attended to free the man and he was taken to hospital for treatment. The road reopened at around 6pm.

£5m winter work

CHESTERFIELD Hospital and the East Midlands Ambulance Service are among health organisations awarded a slice of £5m to cope with winter. The extra funding will be used improving ambulance turnaround at hospitals, providing GP advice to paramedics attending patients in their own homes, and to pay for a GP out of hours at the hospital.

Hotel room drama

BEDROOMS at the Premier Inn on Angel Street, Sheffield city centre, were evacuated when a fire alarm started sounding at 2am on Saturday. Steam in a shower room had triggered the alarm.

Teen in collision

A MAN aged 18 was cut free from a crash on Wingfield Road, Athersley, Barnsley, at 10pm on Friday after his van collided with a stationary car.
