Suburb cordoned off after blaze

POLICE were forced to cordon off a 200m metre area of Wybourn during the early hours of yesterday morning due to a large fire.

Crews were called to the Park Garage in Cricket Inn Road, which repairs commercial vehicles and was reported to be on fire at around 3.47am.

Firefighters from Central and Darnall Stations were told there were acetylene cylinders in the building, so used water to keep them cool and prevent them from exploding.

They were at the scene for four hours and prevented the blaze spreading to adjoining premises.

The bulding was badly damaged and the blaze is believed to have been started deliberately.

Soap star in town

A POPULAR actress is making a special personal appearance at a Sheffield nightspot tonight.

Michelle Keegan, who stars in soap opera Coronation Street, is hosting an evening at The Viper Rooms on Carver Street.

She will take part in a themed night called Geek Chic, which runs from 8pm to 3am.

Knitting fun

KNIT and Natter, on Saturday, February 2, at 12 noon to raise money and food for St Cuthbert’s Food Bank.

All are invited to come along and share their knitting skills and bring along a tin or a packet of food.

The event is at the Dressmakers Workshop, 124 Wortley Road, High Green and all proceeds go to Fir Vale Food Bank.

Shoe box thanks

SOUTH Yorkshire residents helped ensure 25,400 Christmas shoe boxes were delievered to needy youngsters in Belarus, Bosnia, Liberia and Ukraine in 2012.
