Fire crews put out paper and rubbish

A SMALL pile of paper caught fire at a house on Carlton Road, Carlton, Barnsley.

Firefighters were called at 8.40pm on Thursday but the blaze is not being treated as suspicious.

Crews were also called to a fire on Rother View Road Canklow, Rotherham, where a pile of rubbish was alight at 7.20pm on Wednesday.

Marvellous movies

FiLM-LOVERS can enjoy a movie screening at a knock-down price in Sharrow Vale Road. Monthly movie showings take place at the Crowded House building. Admission is £3, which includes coffee and cake. Email sharrowreels@gmail.com for information.

Night of folk music

MUSICIAN Jed Grimes will take to the stage at Barnsley Folk Club’s next event. The singer will perform at Barnsley Trades Club in Racecommon Road on Monday, January 21, at 8pm. Admission is free but there is a suggested donation of £4.

Stuck in a book

A NEW book club, for those who love to read a good book and fancy sharing it with others, launches in Broomhall, Sheffield, on Wednesday. The free club will be hosted in The Jesus Centre at 1.30pm.

Drama studio

SHEFFIELD University Drama Studio presents Pygmalion this Wednesday until Saturday. The play follows Prof Henry Higgins’ transformation of Eliza Doolittle.

Car found ablaze

FIREFIGHTERS in Hathersage were called out to a car fire in Snake Road, Bamford at 4pm on Saturday.
