Arsonists start fire at old folks’ home

ARSONISTS left a former nursing home badly damaged after starting a fire in the building.

The deliberate blaze happened in the old Holly Trees Residential Home, on Vernon Road, Worsbrough, Barnsley, at just after 3am yesterday. No-one was in the three-storey building at the time. Three fire engines and an aerial ladder platform spent three hours at the blaze, which was confined to the first floor.

Bump at the pump

TWO drivers crashed outside a petrol station on Dyche Lane shortly after 10am on Tuesday. Police and paramedics attended, along with firefighters from Dronfield, as one of the vehicles was smoking.

The drivers were checked by medics, but didn’t go to hospital.

Cold-hearted thief

A THIEF stole an electric blanket from a car on Artisan View, Heeley, between Monday and Tuesday. Burglars also took three pedal bikes from garages on Carter Knowle Road, Banner Cross, and Rushdale Road, Heeley.
