New WI branch gets off the mark

Bawtry’s new branch of the Women’s Institute is up and running, with around 50 ladies from the age of 27 to 80 attending the inaugural meeting in the New Hall, with Roberta Eales, a retired physiotherapist, taking the role of branch secretary.

Sonya Nokes, from the town’s Classic and Contemporary Cakes, gave a baking demonstration and the guest speaker at their Christmas party was newly-elected town councillor John Walsh, who gave a cocktail making demonstration.

The group will be holding evening meetings in the New Hall on the third Wednesday of the month.

Prints exhibition

hot Off The Press, an exhibition focusing on the collection of prints in the collection of Doncaster Museum Service, opens at the Chequer Road gallery on Saturday and runs until March 23.

The display will feature works by 1930s artists Eric Gill and Sir Frank Brangwyn.

Clarinet music

the Davis Clarinet Quartet, formed by four graduates of the Royal Academy of Music who reached the final of the Pizza Express Big Audition, have been booked to perform for members of the Sprotbrough Music Society on Thursday, January 17, in St Mary’s Church Hall at 7.30pm. Admission is £7 for members or £12.50 for non-members.

Italian night

the North Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire Voglia d’Italia, or Italian Society, gets together on Friday in Tickhill for its first meeting of 2013, when members will relate some of their experiences and reflections of Italy.
