Man suffering from shock in car wreck

A MAN in his early 20s was taken to hospital after a road smash in Rotherham.

Fire crews used cutting equipment to rescue the man from the wreckage on White Hill Road, Brinsworth. He was taken to Rotherham hospital suffering from shock at 1pm on Sunday.

Premier effort

HOTEL staff in Sheffield have helped raise £1,450 for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.

Staff at six South Yorkshire Premier Inn hotels – Angel Street, St Mary’s Gate, Arena, Meadowhall, Sheffield Barnsley and Rotherham East – joined forces to organise fundraising activities including a cake stall and sponsored fancy dress as part of the hotel chain’s national charity day.

Church concert

SINGER Garth Hewitt is preparing to perform in a Sheffield suburb.

The founder of the Amos Trust, which promotes justice and hope for forgotten communities, will be singing songs from his new album, Justice Like a River. The event is at St Columba’s, Crosspool, on Thursday, November 15, at 7.30pm. For tickets, priced £7 for adults and £4.50 concessions, call 0114 267 0006.

Collection change

GARDEN waste collections in Rotherham are changing.

The green bin recycling collection will change to a monthly collection from December until March.

Blue box, blue bag and black bin collections will continue to be collected on alternative weeks through out the year.

Chip pan blazes

AN UNATTENDED chip pan set fire to a kitchen in Oakwood Road East, Broom Valley, Rotherham, at 5pm on Sunday. In Barnsley firefighters were called to a chip pan fire in Queen’s Road at 7pm on Saturday. A fire service spokesman said: “Never leave cooking unattended.”

Van set on fire

A VAN was set alight in Bolton Street, Broomhall, Sheffield, early yesterday. Crews from Central station spent an hour there.

Post box arson

A POST box was set alight in Handsworth, Sheffield. Crews from Darnall fire station tackled the blaze.
