New football league for cerebral palsy sufferers
A FOOTBALL league for young players with cerebral palsy is to be launched in Sheffield.
It is aimed at getting more young people with the condition involved in the game.
The charity CP Sport will run the league, which is aimed at mobile players aged 12 to 16.
Games will be played at Sheffield United Academy’s indoor training centre, Firshill Crescent, Shirecliffe from Sunday.
CP Sport will also run football development sessions on the same days as the league for players aged five to 11.
Youngsters who use walking sticks, canes, crutches and open-fronted walking frames are invited to attend the development sessions.
Andy Millington, a CP Sport volunteer, said: “The main barriers to cerebral palsy football are travel and getting enough players together at once to train at a single location.
“I want every young person who is ambulant and has cerebral palsy to come to this event.”
