New team promotes safe surfing at school
A NEW team has been set up to help pupils in South Yorkshire schools surf the net safely.
Sheffield, Rotherham and Doncaster councils have all signed up to a new government scheme which is working to connect every school in their authority to broadband.
The Yorkshire and Humber Grid for Learning aims to provide a variety of e-learning services to schools, including teacher training workshops, interactive resources and video conferencing facilities.
A full time e-safety manager has also been appointed to help protect schools and pupils from potential dangers online – an area given top priority.
The team is also offering a new filtering service which blocks unsuitable material from computers and alerts staff if an incident occurs online.
It also runs workshops for teachers and schools on e-safety, plus workshops on various aspects of e-learning.
