A Sheffield firm has been fined £30,000 over safety breaches.

Monckton Coke and Chemical Company Limited, trading as Hargreaves Energy and Commodities Materials Recovery and Recycling, was prosecuted following a blaze at its premises on Stevenson Road, Attercliffe, last June.

The tyre reclamation firm was found to have breached parts of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 following a fire in which a worker was injured.

Fire Service investigators found that the company did not have an adequate risk assessment system in place and that staff were being placed at risk due to lack of training and equipment.

The company pleaded guilty to six charges and was fined £5,000 per charge – a total of £30,000.

It was also ordered to pay £9,900 in costs at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court at the hearing.
