Work is to begin later this month to remove a kilometre of old cast iron water pipes in Chesterfield, replacing them with new plastic ones.
The £157,000 project will not be completed until the autumn and temporary traffic lights will cause disruption.
The Severn Trent Water programme in the Sheffield Road area is needed to prevent future disruption from burst water pipes.
Engineer Liz James said: “We know that the local community in this area has been affected by burst pipes.
“We always want to provide our customers with a reliable water supply – so by installing one kilometre of new pipes we’ll help to make sure that their taps keep flowing with fresh, clean water.”
Work is due to be complete by mid-September.
