A new scheme is bringing a summer of fun to Sheffield’s parks and encouraging families to use the green spaces.

Activity Sheffield, run by Sheffield Council, has launched Your Summer Holiday in the Park – six weeks of fun in parks across the city.

Families can enjoy grass sledging, a mass danceathon and a teddy bears picnic and other free activities in 14 parks including Hillsborough Park, Norfolk Park and Greenhill Park.

Participants can also earn rewards for attending multiple events by downloading app BetterPoints and scanning a QR code at every activity they go to. Rewards are high street and sports equipment vouchers and even a family pass for swimming or ice skating.

Tom Hughes, team leader at Activity Sheffield, said: “We are targeting parks that are fantastic and are under-used. We want to get people using their local green spaces.

“It’s all free as we went to make it as accessible as possible.

“Parks are in the more deprived areas of the city so we are bring these activities to people who wouldn’t usually have the opportunity to do them.

“It has been very well subscribed so far we have seen people travelling across the city to come to more than one event.

“It’s not just about sport there’s circus skills, zumba and tai chi too.”

The activities run Monday to Saturday until August 29.
