ROTHERHAM’S new Labour MP Sarah Champion has made her maiden speech in Parliament.
The former Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice boss told of her priorities including doing ‘everything possible to fight cuts’ to the NHS which include job losses at Rotherham Hospice.
She also highlighted the problem of youth unemployment, saying: “We must all be worried that there is a real danger of creating a workless generation, a generation without hope.”
Ms Champion praised her predecessor, Denis MacShane, who resigned over dishonest expenses claims.
She told the House of Commons he had been ‘a distinguished member’ who ‘achieved much good work’ but ‘made a mistake for which he has paid dear’.
