THE site of Sheffield’s former Central Fire Station has opened as the city centre’s newest car park.

Some 139 short-stay spaces have been created at the junction of Rockingham Street and Wellington Street, including 10 for disabled drivers.

A spokesman for the council, which is operating the facility, said: “The temporary car park has been built to provide city centre visitors and shoppers additional short-stay spaces in the centre of town.”

The car park will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Charging hours will be between 8am to 8.30pm Monday to Saturday. The tariff is £1.55 per hour, with a maximum stay of six hours.
