FORMER Sheffield MP Richard Allan has a new role - as president of the Hallamshire Historic Buildings Society.
Now Lord Allan of Hallam, the retired politician, who represented Hallam between 1997 and 2005 for the Liberal Democrats before being succeeded by Nick Clegg, has long-standing connections with the society, which campaigns to preserve old buildings.
Lord Allan’s father, John, was honorary secretary of the organisation and his mother, Elizabeth, is still a committee member. The ex MP is a qualified archaeologist and is currently director of policy for social networking website, Facebook.
Tony Goff, chairman of Hallamshire Historic Buildings Society, said: “Lord Allan has always been interested in preservation of our architectural heritage.”
