ROTHERHAM’S mayor was treated to a Chinese meal in a new restaurant to celebrate the opening of a new business.

Councillor Rose McNeely was invited to Phoenix II in Swallownest by its owners, who bought a disused pub on Worksop Road and transformed it into a restaurant and takeaway.

The Ho family used to run the Phoenix Chinese Takeaway in Darnall, Sheffield, and when its popularity soared they invested their cash into a new restaurant venture - and loyal customers have followed them.

To mark the occasion they invited a number of guests, including the mayor and other local councillors, as well as charity representatives.

They entertained invitees with two dragons dancing around the restaurant to music performed by a group of children, followed by an impressive Chinese fireworks display.

Next month restaurant manager Gi Gi Ho is staging another traditional Chinese party for invited guests.
