SOUTH Yorkshire’s new Chief Constable David Crompton started his new role yesterday - as the county’s most senior ranking police officer.

Mr Crompton was appointed after applying for the role when he was deputy chief constable at West Yorkshire Police.

Med Hughes spent seven years at the helm before retiring in October.

The vacancy was filled on a temporary basis by Deputy Chief Constable Bob Dyson.
