Anglers now have better access to Sheffield’s Ecclesfield Dam fishery, following a restoration project part-funded by the Environment Agency.
Rod licence income of £5,000 went towards the building of 27 new fishing platforms at the coarse fishing lake. The access path, which used to be a worn, muddy track, has also been resurfaced.
As well as providing safe places for angling, the new platforms encourage anglers to fish at specific points, allowing healthy plant growth between platforms.
This plant growth in turn provides food and shelter for fish, promoting the pond’s biodiversity.
The pond is also used for competitions during the winter, hosted by the British Telecom Angling Club and the Woodseats Fishing Club.
