MORE affordable homes have been built in Barnsley with the completion of 36 in Hoyland, Elsecar and Cudworth.

The two-bedroom and three- bedroom bungalows are designed for the over-55s and people with disabilities.

They have been designed to help residents to reduce their energy bills.

Features include roof panels to generate electricity and gas savers to boost boiler efficiency.

The development was part-funded by Guinness Northern Counties and £3 million was provided by the Homes and Communities Agency.

John Ray of GNC said: “I am delighted we have been able to build these much needed homes for the residents of Barnsley. Our contractors have done an excellent job of building high quality energy efficient homes which will be economic to heat and which the new residents are delighted with.”
